How Health Coaching Can Facilitate Lasting Change

The secret to personal change? Here it is.
To make a change in your life that lasts, the motivation to make the change must come from within.
I know, it sounds simple. It isn't though. Getting in bed a little earlier, eating something green each day, walking for 15 minutes instead of sitting on the couch... think about it. Not so easy after all. Why is it so hard to make these small changes? In a very basic sense, it is hard because we didn't come up with the idea ourselves and maybe we don't actually want to do the things that we know we should do!
The solution to this problem lies in changing your motivation. There are many different types of motivation, but the type I am referring to is intrinsic motivation. This is the type of motivation that you feel when you do something because you genuinely want to. There is personal meaning and value to a particular change, and it is important enough to cause you to realize there is friction between a current behavior and what you ideally want. Once a person is able to find this type of intrinsic motivation, building new habits and reaching new goals becomes possible.
This seems logical to most people, but finding the intrinsic motivation to change habits that have been a part of our lives as long as we can remember (like eating and challenging conventional wisdoms), is also not as simple as it sounds.
This is where health coaching can give you the opportunity to awaken your own potential. You can increase your self-efficacy and be confident that success can be achieved. A health coach can get you to this place of believing in your own capabilities by building new ideas from your strengths, honoring what is most important to you, and creating positive goals and action steps in a structured way to turn your vision of wellness into a reality.
Once this self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation has been established, your actions and your values will be in alignment. At this point, it is possible to finally examine the different barriers to change that have kept you from reaching your optimal wellness goals in the past and not be overwhelmed.
It is so much easier to move forward when you are doing what you want.
As a health coach, I can hold space for you to strategize, contemplate, and tap into your own "why". I have
faith in every person I talk to that they are capable of self-directing their choices and actions towards what they want to be happy, healthy, and to live their best life.
Prioritize your health!
